| December 4-18, 1948. The historical meeting of the fifty-fifth Indian National Congress was held in Jaipur, in the princely state of Rajasthan. The newly christened name of Gandhinagar (meaning Gandhi-town) was used in regular and special cancels on the first day of this meeting. Exhibited here are such cancels (in English and Hindi) on covers with the Gandhi memorial stamps. There are four covers with Gandhinagar special cancellations in Hindi and two in English shown in this exhibit. |
