On November 4 1969, Mauritania was the third of six west African nations that issued a French omnibus memorial set in the 1968-69 period to commemorate Gandhi, King, Luthuli and the Kennedys.  The stamp was issued on the same day when Gabon issued its first Gandhi stamp.  The others who participated in this omnibus issue are Cameroon, Chad, Gabon, Niger and Upper Volta (only Gandhi and Luthuli stamps).  The set from Mauritania only included stamps of Gandhi and Martin Luther King.
