On October 2 1969, Senegal became the second nation from the French/ Western region of Africa to dedicate a separate issue for the Gandhi centenary.  The detailed line-engraved issue from Senegal joins the ranks with the individual Gandhi issues from Congo, Mali and Morocco.  On June 27 1978, Senegal became the third country to have a second Gandhi issue, coincidentally a third Gandhi printing contract for the Swiss printer Courvoisier.  This issue was a two-stamp set that included a stamp of Martin Luther King.
