Sao Tome e Principe (Saint Thomas and Prince), an island off the western equatorial coast of Africa, issued a four stamp set to commemorate the International Year of Peace.  Like some of the Centenary issues of the French community in Africa, this former Portuguese colony limited itself to depicting three of the most prominents proponents of non-violent resistance this century- Mohandas K. Gandhi of India, Martin Luther King of the USA and Albert John Luthuli of South Africa.
