On November 4 1969, Gabon was the third of six west African nations that
issued a French omnibus memorial set in the 1968-69 period to commemorate Gandhi, King,
Luthuli and the Kennedys. The stamp was issued on the same day when Mauritania
issued its Gandhi stamp. The others who participated in this omnibus issue are
Cameroon, Chad, Mauritania (only Gandhi and King stamps), Niger and Upper Volta (only
Gandhi and Luthuli stamps). In 1998, Gabon issued another stamps honoring Gandhi on
the 50th anniversary of his assassination.
