On October 16 1969, Morocco became the third nation from the French/ Western region of Africa to dedicate a separate issue for the Gandhi centenary.  The detailed line-engraved issue from Morocco joins the ranks with the individual Gandhi issues from Congo, Senegal and Mali. This was the second printing contract for a Gandhi issue for the Swiss security printer Courvoisier, who produced the 1948 Gandhi memorial set for India.
