Tanzania was one of seven African nations that issued Gandhi stamps in
1998. The others included Gambia, Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone in West Africa;
Uganda and Zambia in East Africa. The set included two stamps, a lower value
of 370 /- (which was printed in a souvenir sheet as a block of four) and a higher 1500/-
value in a smaller souvenir sheet. The design follows the same theme as the 1998
Gandhi issues from Dominica, Liberia, St. Vincent, Sierra Leone, Uganda and Zambia, all
issued by the Inter Governmental Philatelic Corporation in New York.
